History

Footprints of Love is a nonprofit organizaton founded in 2010 by a group of individuals led by Monica Rivera-Margas with the sole purpose of improving the living conditions of peruvian families living in extreme poverty. Our goal is to help these families and specially those with small or disabled children and single mothers with their basic needs shuch as food, medical services, clothing, education and shelter.

Our leader Monica Rivera-Margas first felt the need to help less fortunate people at the age of 15 when she decided to spend her summer vacations as a volunteer at a local orphanage wanting to significantly contribute to the care of orphans and abandoned children.  Unfortunately she had to leave the orphanage shortly after because she was still attending high school and could not afford to travel back anf forth, she left  with a feeling of acomplishment having helped an orphan child to find a new home.

Monica migrated to the United States in 1997. In her first visit trip to Peru touched by the extreme poverty of children and families, realized she had the moral obligation to help "Her people". In 2006, with the collaboration of friends from Peru, Monica visited "Pachacutec", a poor neighborhood in Lima, where she delivered clothing (donated in the United States) and food.

In 2007, with her husband Richard Margas, Monica returned to "Pachacutec" bringing clothing and food to approximately 60 families.

In 2008, Monica and other partners visited a slum in Pamplona bringing toys, clothing and food. Here she also visited people with disabilities in order to deliver food and money for medicines. This year, she visited and brought toys and clothing for children in Ventanilla.

In 2009, Monica visited "La Union", here she donated a wooden house to orphan girls, and distributed used clothes to approximately 60 families.

In 2010, a group of friends and relatives joined Monica, gathered her wishes and dreams to help those most in need of Peru, and formed the nonprofit organization "Footprints of Love," with the aim of improving the quality of life of Peruvian families living in the poorest places in Peru.
